I was just browsing through blogs and found that people had created quizzes telling you which Smallville Big Name Writer etc, you were. And I thought, gee that would be cool for West Wing.

Then I realised, I've never had a real discussion about who the big names are in the West Wing universe. I have some opinions, and my own favourite writers, but have never run across a discussion about it.

So, any West Wingers reading my live journal (Okay, [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch )- let me know, join in the conversation. Who are our big names?

Oh you know - Teanna and cgb... ;)

I was going to say, check out the "best author" nominated authors in the Jeds from last year but they didn't keep the nominees up on the site... But reading over that list reminds me of authors I can never remember so it's a good indication... But it's old and a lot of them aren't writing anymore so I dunno... But hey, good stories... Luna is West Wing fanfic, so I just say Luna.

Yeah, I was about to say Luna. And I'm not even in the fandom.

Ellen M?

If august isn't a BNF, she should be.

Is there a freaking selection criteria for this sort of thing? There probably should be check boxes or something...

I don't know - the fascination with the idea is a bit perverse isn't it? You can be the most popular author in the fandom and still be a very average writer.

It's a bit like Gwyneth Paltrow winning an Academy Award - no one really gets why she won but we suspect it's something to do with her being famous for being famous.

Gwyneth won because Roberto Benini won for the best actor and Cate Blanchett was the only other front runner - and you couldn't have two foreigners taking off the best awards . . . *g*

Feh. It was an incredible injustice anyway.

I think the Jeds were shared between Jo and Ryo, Jae Gecko and Luna. Add Ellen M and marguerite and you probably get the big 5. There's a lot of other writers who are really, really good and don't get the recognition in WW (not name recognition. They might get - "oh, I remember that story")

Actually, Bramble, Pixelvixen and Mojo and Jori all scored just as well if not better than those others. And Sabine was voted best author (something I definitely wouldn't argue with) - so what does it all mean?

And for some reason I saw Bramble's Bad Q Rising and thought, "hmmmm... been meaning to read that..." and I did. And it's freaking hilarious. Recommended.

I'd like to add my favorites who haven't been named above, those being: Suki, The Stylus, International Princess, Not Jenny, and Pene.

I think it means that Josh/Donna writers are accorded far less respect than other WW writers.

Just my 11 cents as a reader/lurker in WW.

Because I'd put Pix up with the best in any fandom without hesitation.

The names that come to my mind are Luna, August, Pix, Sabine, Mojo & Jori, Marguerite and Christine. But I'm heavy on the J/D side, or I was when there was still lots of good J/D fic being written...

Ah, forgot a few - problem of not reading m/m slash *g*

For my two cents, picking my favourite authors (and I'm sure to forget some here) Marguerite, Luna, Christine, Ellen M, August and International Princess.
