Shiny, isn't it.

As some people may know, my Grandmother is an expert and published author on dolls. For ten years or so, she and my grandfather owned a doll and toy museum, and their house is a place of doll and toy wonder. She's been a doll collector most of her life and was regional director of the United Federation of Doll Collectors (UDFC) and president of the Brisbane club.

My mother also collects dolls. Her 'thing' at the moment is soft and felt dolls, and she's got some lovely ones. She's currently president of the Brisbane club of the UDFC, and her name has been thrown around for regional director.

Yesterday I bought my first dolls as a doll collector.

I already have some dolls. My grandfather made a doll of me when I was a baby, I have a Madam Alexander Peter Pan, and I have a collection of Baby-Sitters Club dolls. But I decided it was time to join the family tradition and I bought two Barbies yesterday.

I've decided to concentrate on fashion dolls - they're more my thing than bigger dolls, or antiques. I started with Barbies because I like them more than Bratz dolls, and they're affordable for me at the moment. And I can ask for them for Christmas and my grandmother will come through.

And I just finished chapter 15. So the question is, do I begin the next chapter? Or do I leave it, and have a good feeling tomorrow morning when I hit halfway?

Ah, back to writing after two days off. It feels good, and my characters are still talking to me!

One of my students at dancing is interested in NaNo - must get her involved next year.

My paid account runs out soon :(

1. I've finished 4 chapters. That's 6512 words and more than a 10th of the book finished.

2. My stories/story actually seem to be coming together

3. I need to do a snack run.

4. Things that have surprised/pleased me
-I love writing the stage mum
-The guys in this story are (so far) rather nice
-The characters are about to hit their first speed bumps

I'm putting a review of each chapter on the filter. The first three are there, and I'm about to spam those people with my fourth. If you want in on the filter, just comment here.

Finishing University
The university is done. Completed. I don't have to go back there again. I have done the last exam of that degree.

Of course, being QUT, they found one last way to screw me over. They put an essay exam in a lecture theatre. You know, the ones with those crappy tables that fold out from next to the chair. You know, the ones at QUT which have no left handed desks. It was really hard not to mention this while I wrote my essay on discriminatory practices in education.

I'm so glad to leave that place.

Having Too Much to Drink
Oh well. I made it home. And I won't be on the cover of the Sunday Mail, so that's okay.

NaNoWriMo
1644 words done, but no official word counter until the USA catches up to us. I'm going to post a bit about the first chapter under the filter. If you're interested, just leave a comment here

I've got a number of writing things up my sleeve at the moment:

1. NaNoWriMo - of course. 50 000 words about three girls
1a. NaNoWriMo outline before Tuesday
1b. NaNoWriMo character profiles before Tuesday

2. CLB306 exam - piffle, I say. Piffle.

3. Alphabetasoup 26 fic challenge - I have 24 to finish, if the mod ever approves me

4. My grandfather's magnificent 'train' story

5. A series of 'captured fairy' stories for my mother. (By the way, coming up with new ideas with my mother is like coming up with ideas with my friends. I think she's going to start making emo and goth bears . . . )

6. Various pieces of writing for the dancing concert

Good fun.

In other news, Matt brought flowers and chocolate home for me yesterday. And the lovely [livejournal.com profile] sangerin sent me a Dreamy Darcy icon which I need to upload!

I'm setting up a NaNoWriMo filter if anyone's interested.

I've got a pretty firm idea of what I'm doing now - so the posts will probably be about characters, plot, places, other planning, little pieces of writing and links to things I want to remember. Oh and word count and panic.

The story will be young adults, with three main characters, with a strong ballet focus (it's about time I wrote about what I know)

If you're interested in being on the filter, comment here

Hmm.

Guess who signed up for NaNoWriMo?

If I get it and the concert together then I get a HUGE pat on the back.

Now I have to decide what I'm going to write . . .
