Shiny, isn't it.

As some people may know, my Grandmother is an expert and published author on dolls. For ten years or so, she and my grandfather owned a doll and toy museum, and their house is a place of doll and toy wonder. She's been a doll collector most of her life and was regional director of the United Federation of Doll Collectors (UDFC) and president of the Brisbane club.

My mother also collects dolls. Her 'thing' at the moment is soft and felt dolls, and she's got some lovely ones. She's currently president of the Brisbane club of the UDFC, and her name has been thrown around for regional director.

Yesterday I bought my first dolls as a doll collector.

I already have some dolls. My grandfather made a doll of me when I was a baby, I have a Madam Alexander Peter Pan, and I have a collection of Baby-Sitters Club dolls. But I decided it was time to join the family tradition and I bought two Barbies yesterday.

I've decided to concentrate on fashion dolls - they're more my thing than bigger dolls, or antiques. I started with Barbies because I like them more than Bratz dolls, and they're affordable for me at the moment. And I can ask for them for Christmas and my grandmother will come through.

:( My paid account ran out. I only have 1 Spooks icon and no Dreamy Darcy :(

Congrats on the word count.

Dolls aren't really my thing (well collecting them isn't I kinda like making rag dolls, but that's a whole other story), but it sounds cool have a family tradition. We don't have anything like that in my family.

I need to introduce your mother and grandmother to my cousin Judith.

Also, I *so* would have bought you paid time, but my credit card is groaning under the combined weight of the deposit for my car, half the cost of my 2006 Musica Viva subscription and the bill for the firm's Melbourne Cup lunch. So when I see the bill I'm going to cry, and I don't dare add any more to it.

your post has scared me. Ive just realise that I may be counted as a doll collector, seeing I have a thing for She-ra dolls that is branching into areas (stop the Sailor Moon dolls PLEASE). (okay they are action figures technically. I dont know if that saves me or not)

Nano - keep going - do it for the TEAM! Fantasic!

Hi I just added you as a friend :D

I noticed from the teaching community (poll) that you were in QLD (where I'm from) so I had a look at your lj.

You are WAY ahead of me with your NANOWRIMO novel... good thing I have two extra days off this month.

I love Barbies too! LOL I used to have the most awesome Barbie book- it was a history of Barbie FULL of pics of every Barbie since she started. The earliest ones had the coolest fashions!!!
