Thoughts . . .
Jul. 18th, 2003 07:27 amYesterday, the Uniting Church voted to allow congregations to choose homosexual ministers if they so wished. There's a story here This has prompted some conservative members to talk about mass walk out.
For a variety of reasons, I haven't been to church for a few years (mostly because I haven't been able to find a congregation that suit me and I've spent a lot of years working on Sundays), but I still regard myself as a member of the Uniting Church. And as uninvested as I am right now, I can't imagine wanting to deliberatly hurt my church.
Of course, my thoughts are influenced by the fact that I agree with the decision. I've been looking for a good congregation near me since I settled into my new place, but I think this will probably influence me to move faster. I don't think I'll be the only one.

on 2003-07-17 08:10 pm (UTC)We knew there were people out there like you, Mel! I'd still wait a little, particularly as you're in Queensland, which is one of the states most likely to be affected.
It's all rather amazing, and I'm still stunned, and as you'll see from my LJ, tired.
And *thank you* for getting the details right. Congregations have been reminded that they can choose - and even ordain - homosexual ministers if they wish. If only the media could get it right.
