I was really tired last night so I only got through one of these.

1.5

This is a heavy Tessa episode, isn't it. So there's this guy who went to jail and wrote a book . . .

The highlights of this episode - well, Tessa of course. Danny and Zoe's drunken discussion, head dunking and almost-kiss. Jools and his Wagner-Nazi-Buggering. The awesome book reading scene (Christ!)

The Tom/Ellie storyline starts to get a little irritating here, with the addition of Maisie's father and the whole 'move out/move in' frizzle. I think Mark was unnecessary - there was plenty of tension between the two without this.

The actual storyline goes a little all over the place here - I actually think episodes 1.1 - 1.4 are much much stronger than 1.5 and 1.6. I'm kinda looking forward to getting through 1.6 tonight so I can move onto season 2 - and RUTH!

Jools! Jools with his marvellous quip about someone minding the country while we're at the opera! Jools switching from jocular to bullying with Lavrov! Jools unbuttoning his trousers in Harry's office, and no doubt relishing the five seconds panic before Harry and Tom understand! I tell you, I'm glad Hugh Laurie got the House, MD job and found himself a star in the US, but it's sad, sad, sad for Spooks. Oliver Mace doesn't cut it one bit.

I just tried to imagine Jools and Oliver Mace in the same scene and died from the snark . . .

Totally agree, I saw the seasons out of order (starting with 2, then 3, then 1) and poor Oliver Mace seems very bland after the wonderful Jools... But then I've always been in love with Hugh Laurie!

You forget the best line of the season: Tom going 'Why is he being so nice to us?' after the opera scene. And Harry's hilarious reaction to the very thought of having to speak to Jools...
I actually like this episode a lot, especially the ending with all the parallel stories being wrapped up simultaneously...
