We drew!!!!!

Which means . . .

WE GO THROUGH TO THE SECOND ROUND!!!!!

(Take that silly American official/coach type person who said we were only there to make up numbers. How many games did you win, huh?)

(I need a soccer icon)

I watched this game, discovering that I suck at watching soccer. Is it ok to abuse the ref? Because I was doing a bit of it. *g*

YAY!

It's okay so long as you're not on the field. The abuse should have started about the time the Croatian player (Kovac?) grabbed Viduka and pulled him down...

That might have been when I began yelling . . .

(Kovac was the coach's son, wasn't he)

Dunno, he might be. The Croatian coach was a hoot; jumpier than an antelope. I kept screaming "hands! hands!" very quietly as kid2 was still asleep.

We should have been on chat....

It wasn't Kovac with that tackle: it was one of the Aussie-Croats, Siminic. The guy with three yellow cards.

I think the only goal they 'scored' was scored by the other team . . . *g*

Yeah, it bounced off an Italian's leg. I'm sure his countrypeople aren't too pleased with him...

I wonder if the Italians could do that when we play them next in the knock out round . . . *g* It would be nice to win that game too . . .

Yep, I totally sympathise with the abusing-the-ref business... is it just me, or have the refs been particularly bad in all of our games? From making bad calls to awards penalities to the wrong team and whatnot, I'm surprised any of them make it out alive off the field.

I think the stirring the Japanese did before the games started probably tarnished our rep the way they wanted it to. The refs are going in thinking we're a physical team, so we're not getting the 'defense' from the refs we deserve. Though the hand ball call was the worst at the end - we could have won the game then :( This ref was probably the best out of the three, though

Im getting very confused about what is the actual interpretation of the rules by watching so many games.

Last night I keep envisioning the ref with shine glasses saying "respect my authority" while things where bedlambehind him. So lost control of the game at the end.
We got the rough end of many calls/uncalls (the rugby tackle, a trip, hand ball) but we also had some lucky dodges thanks to the ref being so dodgy.

Yes, I've delighted in booing that person in every game ;) The US isn't exactly a powerhouse. And in many ways we have the most difficult journey to qualify in the first place, having to play a team from another region, usually one of the very good teams.
