Queenslanders/Australians - how would you describe a 'bogan' for overseas consumption?

Oh gosh...That's a question for the ages, isn't it?

maybe a suburban redneck?

ugh, it's kind of an awful term when I think about it.

That's about the same description I came to.

I think the suburban is important - it's like that aspirational stuff Howard keeps going on about.

A cross between white trash, a redneck and a chav.

I would have said "chav", yes, specifying male.

Weird. I just had this dicussion the other day.

I thought it was someone with no class.

Someone I was talking to said a bogan was anyone from the country, a hick.

I reckon the 'redneck' term that someone mentioned already pretty much sums up what a bogan is.

I'm writing an article about a Girls Book set in Brisbane - the girl comes from Logan - or as the nasty girls say - 'Bogan'

To an English person, I'd describe them as a Chav, only without the Burberry and with added Ugg boots.

How does anyone who would be translated as "bogan" manage to afford Burberry?

For english consumption, a chav or, in the north/Scotland, a ned.

From what I can gather from my conversations with non-Australians, bogans amount to what foreigners see as white trash.

Lower class, crude, lacking in the education department.

bogan

I would have to say a 'bogan' is what we also call a 'doll bluger' someone who dosen't work and lives of Centerlink payments (goverment payments for the unemployed)
