My Little Rant
Jan. 30th, 2003 10:39 pmBecause there’s nothing like a good band wagon . . .
Melina’s Point Of View
1. Fan fiction is a good thing. (Start simple = makes life easier)
2. People who don’t enjoy fan fiction or don’t feel a real need to read/write it should leave it - quietly and without flouncing.
3. RPF makes me feel a little squicky. I’ll dance in public for good RP parody though.
4. I like to read and write het and I like to read and write gen. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with people who like to read/write only gen and/or het - it’s a personal choice.
5. In fact most of fandom is a personal choice.
6. If fandom wasn’t a personal choice then I’d be reading Pop fic, or LOTR fic, or Star Trek fic rather than HP, WW, BtVS, AtS and M*A*S*H.
7. I don’t usually go looking for slash. Usually, it’s not my thing. But I’ll read slash written by authors I like, or partners I can see, or West Wing fem slash. I write some slash - but I prefer the character stuff to sex.
8. People in fandom should be allowed to have personal choices. It doesn’t make them homophobic or hetro-phobic or dumb or elitist or populist. They should be able to read what they like and write what they like.
9. People in fandom should be a little more considerate of those around them - and everyone (including me) should feedback more
10. Finally - let’s see some smiles!
Now I’ve had my say. Feel free to ignore me.
