Book 76: Wishes and Dreams by Kathy Clark

”Okay Mary-Kate. Let's start with the facts. Your party is two weeks from Thursday and you don't know where you're having it yet?”

Yet another series book – Mary-Kate and Ashley this time. The girls are about to turn 16 and they're trying to plan the perfect party. On top of that Mary-Kate is fighting with her boyfriend and both girls are about to take their driving tests.

It's a pretty standard book – the twists are clear coming, and the ending is inevitable. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable quick read.

Book 77: The Au Pairs by Melissa De La Cruz

”Ah, de Hamptons, berry, berry rich people there”

So, a few weeks ago I read the sequel to this book. This was pretty much more of the same – three girls in the Hamptons, supposedly looking after four children. In reality they are drinking, partying, and having sex.

La, la, la.

Basically it's one of those trendy teenaged books that teenage girls apparently want to read. The writing is so-so, the characters lean from slightly cliched, to very cliched. We're supposed to get on the side of the girls, which most of the time is easier said than done. And someone should rescue those poor children immediately.

Book 78: Second Sight by Isobel Bird

'Reveal that which has been hidden.' The voice called to Cooper faintly, as if the person speaking the words was in another room.

Another book about Cooper, Annie and Kate and their involvement in Wicca. This book revolves around Cooper, and is more of a mystery. Cooper is hit with nightmares and visions, which turn out to be about a missing girl. She approaches the older people at the Crone's Corner magic shop and they encourage her to contact the police. Unfortunately, Cooper's information helps them discover that the girl has died. The rest of the book deals with the aftermath – a nasty leak from the police about Cooper's involvement, Cooper's further information about the murderer, and the eventual catching of the murderer.

It's another series book – well written, but nothing spectacular. The mystery was definitely more interesting than the romance aspect of the last book, and it was interesting to explore a part of wicca aside from spell casting.

Book 79: Mary Anne and the Zoo mystery by Ann M Martin

”The emu. She escaped.”

So, yet another Baby-Sitter's mystery; yet another so-so story. Mary Anne and the other baby-sitters are completing a project on animals. They go to the zoo. Someone's letting the animals loose. They find out who's doing it. Everyone's happy.

The much more interesting stuff is the relationships going on between the BSC and the other SMS-ers. Mary Anne is put in a group with Alan Gray and Howie Johnson; Alan and Logan are having a massive fight over who's going to produce the best project; Stacey and Kristy are put in the same group and they aren't speaking to each other (this is during the period that Stacey is out of the club).

Anyway, all in all a pretty standard Baby-Sitters book.

Book 80: Changing Emma by John Brindley

Helen had looked at her strangely. Helen's parents were more than a little surprised by all the champagne. Then she told them about the twenty-three and a half million pound lottery win.

Everything changed.

Oh, yuck, yuck, yuck.

A decent idea, maybe. A teenage girl, who used to be on the outside, more concerned about school than fashion, changes completely when her father wins the lottery. Unfortunately, Brindley couldn't write a decent sentence if it crawled into his head and hit him repeatedly around the brain.

They're short. And snappy. And make it very hard to get a complete picture of anything.

On top of the, the characters are completely over the top and often act without any motivation whatsoever. If I ever have to open this book again, I think I might kill myself.
