Sir Joh has died.

Now let's watch Lady Flo try to grant him a Sainthood . . .

ETA: A Quick Guide to Joh Bjelke=Peterson

ETA2: A little more info, including the time when Joh took away the right to march in Queensland

In summary, he was a highly controversial figure who ruled an incredibly corrupt state. His wife is trying to say that he knew nothing about the corruption and that he was this wonderful saviour of Queensland.

He wasn't Catholic, was he?

The more interesting thing will be Howard's reaction, given that he used to detest him, and everyone knows it...

No. She's Lutheran, and I think he was, but not as extreme as him. Lady Flo is just trying to make him sound so wonderful, and how he did such wonderful things for Queensland. And he always had Queenslander's best interests at heart.

And we're paying for a bloody state funeral.

Was it disc 4 that didn't work so well? Mine plays, but the sound on ep 7 goes up and down...

*sigh* Well, I was very careful to keep the reciept.

hhmmm I'm frickin' sick of hearing how wonderful a man he was, I guess the news doesn't want the backlash of "speaking ill of the dead".

And for some reason a lot of Queenslanders actually believe it. History has definately been white washed in regards to Joh.

Much eye rolling when his spokesperson was saying that his great achievements would live on. If I were a journalist I'd be asking for a list.
On the other hand, a little tear for Al Grassby. He was a good man.

They'll be talking about the continued growth in Queensland. I'd be asking about the eighteen years that have passed since Joh resigned, and the five premiers who have led Queensland in that time.

Alas, poor Joh. So sad that he never got the criminal charges and public lambasting he deserved. *sniffles*

However, I shall make pumpkin scones in his honour, for they are delicious and full of pumpkin.
