melwilAfter much soul and syllabus searching and some truly wonderful ideas that I'd love to use, but don't quite meet the criteria (damn - file them away for later use) I decided to create a literacy unit called "Persuasive Speeches and Quotable Quotes: Can Words change the World?"
Matches nicely into the history part of the SOSE syllabus and allows students to make their own persuasive speech and piece of advertising material
ETA: Also allows me to reccomend the Paul Keating Insults Page
For non-Aussies, Paul Keating was the Prime Minister before our current PM, and was noted for saying some wonderfully outrageous things, mostly in Parliment.
eg:
"Damn them for being the cheats they are."
"That you Jim? Paul Keating here. Just because you swallowed a f***ing dictionary when you were about 15 doesn't give you the right to pour a bucket of shit over the rest of us."

on 2005-03-21 08:13 pm (UTC)And *sighs* I miss Paul, even if he did go slightly batty towards the end, there. He made me actually want to watch the Parliament broadcasts. And I was in primary school, dammit. Anyone who makes Parliament broadcasts interesting for a primary school kid (nerdy as I was) has to be cool.
...my potty mouth makes a little more sense when you figure that into the equation. *g*
