Ah ha - I remember what I wanted to say.

I spent a little time last night, hunting down and trying to read a certain BNF in the Harry Potter fandom (you could say that she's one of the biggest).

Unfortunately, I found the writing to be so bad that I couldn't get past the first page on two different stories.

Thank goodness that I was introduced to Harry Potter by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] lizbee. I honestly think that if I'd started with this BNF, I wouldn't have been able to get past these stories.

I just don't get the hype.

Oh c'mon, which one?

I mean, I think I can guess, but...

Hmm . . . I told Matt (my boyfriend) that I could be all bitchy and narky because no one ever reads my LJ *g*

It's Cassandra Claire of course.

If only I could beta those stories for her. Or slap her around the head with a large, uncooked fish.

Heh. I had the same problem -- I got through, um, the first chapter of one. And then said "Nevermind".

Well you got further than me. I made it half way through one chapter.

I think I've been terribly spoilt when it comes to getting good HP fic

I have to admit that I have read most of her massively long epic, but it took me several tries to get past what must have been the first page of the first chapter, especially with the typo in the first line of the copy on schnoogle. By the time I got to the fourth chapter, though, I was hooked.

Not that I'm saying you *should* try again, actually. This was supposed to be more of a statement of support for not getting past the first chapter. I was just massively bored one day and decided to read past that anyway... try to figure out why everyone was saying such good things about it.

Um, hi. Yes. Occasionally I feel inspired to pop in with my two cents.r

I thought maybe you were talking about Eliza Diawna Snape, who is one of the biggest BNFs, while all she has is a massively long and boring epic centering around a necromancing Mary Sue and a shade for Draco's "sister".

How I long for the good ol' days of HP fandom...

*grins and doesn't say a word because she made it pretty clear in both Dymocks and Borders today...*

What does BNF stand for anyhow? That's a new acronym.

I haven't read CC yet. Huh.

I knew exactly who you were talking about!

I will strongly recommend "Draco Veritas", the third in the trilogy. Unfortunately, you kind of need to read the first two, but I'm sure a kind, fic-writing friend would be happy to explain what you missed, complete with interpretive dances and re-enactments of significant scenes...

Just another fandom acronym . . . *g*

I think that part of the problem is that this is obviously a Draco heavy series. Draco just doesn't do it for me.

Lucius, Snape et al = good.

Draco = blah.

He's just a bully - not evil, not sinister. Just a minor bully with a powerful dad - much like the kids I went to school with.
