Two exams down.

The first one, maths, went really well. I answered all the questions - well, I think - in two of the three allotted hours.

The second exam was mad. Multiple choice. I ask you, does my teaching really depend on whether I can tell you if it was Glasser or Ford who came up with some pretty interchangable theory? And if I tell a parent that I use a particular teaching method because "Glasser's work recommended it." won't that parent punch me.

I think this would have been a subject better assessed by producing a portfolio of written work - an example of how to deal with a certain situation, a plan to deal with a misbehaving student, a letter to parents explaining our educational ideas and values.

It was also the worst written exam I have ever seen in my life. Misspelt words, grammer train wrecks, sentences that seemed to have no beginning, no middle and no end. I spent the time before I could leave correcting the exam. It reduced stress.

One exam to go.

Yes, it does sound mad. At least you could correct it to reduce the stress. When's the next exam?

Monday . . . actually, I'm looking forward to that one. It's a seen essay exam . . .

Um - a "seen essay" exam? What are you Queenslanders up to now?

*g* We get to see the questions before we do the exam. They show us four, only two will be on the exam. Then we write essays. It's on teaching in New Times, so the essays are on gender, race, social identity and class in relation to teaching. I really enjoy it.

Sounds like a good subject. And a good way of doing the exam.
