They ate take out in her office because it was private and comfortable and he was hungry anyway. And it was easier to bug her for information when it was all at her fingertips.

She told him that it felt like he had never gone away.

He smiled and stole her food. He knew better than that.

Three days later she pinned the fish pin onto the front of her jacket. She touched it in the briefing room while she was telling them about something nobody cared about. Danny smiled and rushed to catch up with her later.

“Hey.”

“Do you think anyone even noticed the fish pin?”

“I noticed.”

“You don’t count.”

“Okay.”

“Hey, I was thinking,” CJ stopped to take a pile of papers from Carol and turned back to look at him. “I was wondering what you were doing tonight?”

“Take away in your office.”

CJ raised her eyebrows. “I never even invited you.”

He shrugged. “I’ll see you at seven, then.”

“Fine. Whatever.”

He was halfway down the corridor, but her voice reached him anyway.

“Don’t be late fish boy.”

He couldn’t help but smile.
