Where you grew up (ages 5-15): South East Queensland, Australia
WHAT DO YOU CALL ...
1. a body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks?
creek/brook
2. the thing you push around the grocery store?
shopping trolley - lots of fun to ride . . .
3. a metal container to carry a meal in?
lunch box - but they're plastic
4. the thing that you cook bacon and eggs in?
frying pan
5. the piece of furniture that seats three people?
couch, lounge chair
6. the device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof?
gutters - very important if you rely on tank water
7. the covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening?
verandah - not necessarily covered though.
8. carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages?
soft drink. If it's black it's coke, if it's clear it's lemonade
9. a flat, round breakfast food served with syrup?
pancakes, or piklets if someone screwed up
10. a long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself?
a roll
11. the piece of clothing worn by men at the beach?
togs! Or DTs (Dick Togs) or boardies
12. shoes worn for sports?
sneakers
13. putting a room in order?

Here, it's likely to be under a Queenslander. Mostly compacted dirt floors, possibly with timber slats around it. Dark, cool, perfect in the middle of summer. We call it under the house . . .

In primary school it was a port. In highschool, a school bag.

Primary school: little lunch and big lunch
High school: morning tea and lunch
