Happy and Sad
Nov. 30th, 2003 07:49 pmThe Happy News
Matt got his university results today - he passed everything and got a 6 (the highest mark is 7 - a six is a distinction) for his honours thesis. He's happy that he'll be graduating a week from tomorrow.
The Sad News
One of the members of our small church community passed away early this morning. I didn't know Ernie Calvert very well, as I'm still new and he was out sick a lot, but whenever he did meet at church, he went out of his way to make me feel welcome and a part of the community. On the day of my baptism/confirmation, his wife was one of the elders who laid hands on me, and he pulled me aside later to hand me a Bible on behalf of him and his wife. He always had a joke ready too - sometimes good, sometimes bad, but always good for a laugh. And his story of how he almost missed his wedding because he wanted a decent meal of fish and chips had me laughing more than ever appropriate for the front porch of a church.
In honour of Ernie, try to make someone laugh today. Tell them a bad joke, tell them a funny story, do a monkey impersonation. I want to honour his life with laughter.
