So I had this idea . . .

What if Harry didn't want to save the world anymore? What if he threw a Buffy-esque tantrum and refused to fight? What if Melina wakes up really early and writes a little fragment of fiction . . ?

"Hermione." Harry buried his head in his pillow. "Is it at all possible that you could leave me alone for just one night?"

"But Harry," she pulled at his shoulder, "it's important."

"Important?" When wasn't it important? Stop Quirrel, save Ginny, escape from Voldemort, fight Voldemort, rescue Ministry members who never believed him, defeat Voldemort, fight whatever evil was lurking next. "It's always bloody important."

"Harry."

"And what if I'd had a girl in here, hey? Wouldn't you feel bad then?" He rolled away from Hermione.

"You never have a girl. You haven't had one in ages."

"It's no wonder, what with you lot barging in here all the time." Harry muttered.

"Are you coming, Harry?"

"You guys can go ahead. I'll catch up."

He felt the bed shift as Hermione sat on the end. "You know that people really rely on you, don't you Harry? To a lot of witches and wizards, you're the only thing standing between them and an intimate knowledge of death." She sighed.

Harry rolled over to face her. "Maybe I'm sick of being the only one saving the world. Maybe I'm tired of the bruises and the pain and the endless knocks to the head leaving me unconsious. I've no extra special super powers. I'm no messiah of the wizarding world. I've just got the same magic as the rest of you. You can go this time."

"Harry." She shook her head. "What would your parents say?"

He raised his eyebrows at her, glad that his glasses were sitting next to his bed, glad he couldn't really see the sad look on her face. "I don't know, Hermione. Maybe they would say . . . good for me!"

"Harry!"

"Maybe, Hermione, they would like me to live. Maybe they would even like me to live long enough to have my own children, to be able to watch them grow up. Isn't that why my mother died? So that I would live? I want to live Hermione. You can save the world."

"Okay Harry." She stood up. "I guess I'll go wake Ron up then."

"Good." He buried his head back in the pillow. "You and Ron can save the world."

"Maybe, after that, Neville can have a go."

"Go away, Hermione."
