Spooks rewatching 3.3 and 3.4
Sep. 27th, 2007 11:06 amI realised that I'm running out of time for these . . .
3.3
Watching the real version of this episode (rather than the cutdown version the ABC showed in Australia) shows how strong the cricket references were all the way through this episode. I'm a mild cricket fan - I have a decent understanding of the game - but still I can't really match cricket to the other events of the episode, unless it has something to do with sending Glenn McGrath out as a night watchman, to protect Ricky Ponting . . .
Other than that, I find it remarkable how quickly Danny is sinking - quicker than Zoe - into quagmire. He make a close bond with Harakut rather quickly (a little like Tom and Fred) and keeps pushing at Zoe in a way that seems at odds with his past behaviour.
Adam's gelling his way into the team here, flirting outrageously with Ruth.
3.4
Oh Danny. While Zoe's wrapping herself up in the photographer, and getting engaged, he's sinking deeper and deeper into quicksand, this time accompanied by Harry's daughter . . .
There's something really lovely between Catherine and Danny - another one of those 'could have beens' It's easy to understand how betrayed she felt - especially considering her relationship with her father.
We meet Fiona for the first time, and they definitely didn't have the best grip on her character yet - she's much breezier in her manner, like it's all just a big game. I'm trying to work out how long she's been in the business of spying, considering she still finds it exciting. I do love the signals between Adam and Fiona - bet they spend long nights working those out.
I think this is possibly only the second time we really see past Harry's 'shell' - the first time after his house was broken into in 2.7. He has no idea how to relate with/to his children, and in many ways does not recognise that they've grown or changed. Depsite their disconnection, theres still similarities between Catherine and Harry - in the words they use, in the ways they focus on what they do. I do wonder what happened to Graham, though.
Must make mention of the Adam and Danny hanging out in the park look and the comment about Ruth as a terrifying weapon *g*
