Gyah - Live Journal's really pissing me off today.

Well - I'm back on line. All it took was an $11 trip to Hardly Normal. (Not the modem - phew)

To come: An account of the 44 books I picked up for $10 at the Life Line Book Fair
An account of my really wierd household and their new decorating scheme.
An account of the Dunkin Donuts Diet

But I want to check some LJs first

Well I spent three hours on Monday at the Life Line Book fair - an awesome event where they pile a whole buck of used books onto tables and donate all the money to Life Line.

On Monday, in the un-priced books section, the deal was one plastic bag of books for $5, and 5 bags for $20.

I took two bags, thinking I'd never get everything I wanted into them, but it was worth a try.

My mistake here was to make a beeline for the kids books section - the best collection of books that I borrowed out of libraries in my childhood. I ended up with a full hardback colection of the 'What Katy Did' books, a Trixie Belden, two Naughtiest Girl books, two Ramona books, five Paula Danziger books, Playing Beattie Bow and a couple of others. Then I picked up Strunk and White, a dictionary (I didn't have one), and an encyclopaeidic dictionary, and a couple of education books. And I'd only just started on the second bag - so I hit the National Geographics, picking up a large pile that dealt with Ancient History and America.

It was awesome. And if you calculate a worth of about $5 on each book - a collection of books worth $220.

My friends at work and I have noticed something a little bit alarming. It seems, that we are all victims of the Dunkin Donuts diet. It happens to the hapless employees, who because they never get enough hours, don't have enough money to buy proper food.

I can, I have discovered, live on nothing more than coffee, two minute noodles, pasta, rice, soup and baked beans. This isn't my choice - I love fruit and veggies and love my meat - but if I want such things such as transport to work, rent, money to ring my parents every now and then, then I have to buy only the basics.

Today, though, is pay day! So some veggies (potato and pumpkin!) and maybe some meat shoud be forthcoming.

I opened the book and found . . .  )

And if that wasn't enough for you.

Ten Good Things That Happened Today )

Just a thought - a nation that attacks first loses its right to be thought of, or regarded as, noble. And those who applaud death are despicable.

(And the USA only stood up to ‘Hitlerism’ after they were attacked by Japan. Presidents should stop trying to rewrite history.)
