Sometimes you do things you don't expect

I was walking up to the shops today when I saw the red cross mobile blood bank. I've been meaning to donate blood for ages now, I tried in high school, but I had a cold sore and they didn't want to. And if Jacinda could donate blood, so could I.

To my surprise, I'm in really good health. Good weight for my height, good iron levels, good blood pressures (yay!) The needle was a little pain, then lots of blood and - waa zaa! - I had donated enough blood to save three lives.

I was going fine until they said I could sit up. They gave me cordial, and then . . . well, the world was going very black all of a sudden. I didn't quite faint, but I did get close. They lay me down, put my feet up a bit, and placed a wet cloth over my head, not letting me get up until I had colour again. Then they gave me biscuits.

But, all in all, I'm fine now. Just a little sore in the arm and not quite as vivacious as normal. It's worth it for the feeling that I've helped people.
