Women's Gymnastics: The Mardi Gras of the Olympics

My take on the women's gymnastics at the Olympics.

-Nice to see Australia didn't do too well. We'd never cope if our gymnasts actually did well at an Olympics *g*
-Memo to all coaches: Please take your gymnasts by the ankles, turn them upside down and shake them until there is no glitter left on their hair, eyelids or leotards. Most of the gymnasts looked ready for their float in the Mardi Gras. Thank goodness for Svetlana.
-Kudos to most teams for having gymnasts who don't look like nine and ten year old girls! Exceptions made for the Spanish and Chinese. The Spanish girls didn't help their case by wearing the short sleeved leotards I always associate with junior gymnasts. Plus glitter.
-Please, please, please take your gymnasts away from tumbling runs for a second and teach them simple dance moves. It's really stupid to lose points on a double turn or a turning cat leap on floor. Beam is a different story. (Actually I loved the beam)
-Does Svetlana alway look so awkward away from bars?
-The Romanians were wonderful.
-Did anyone see the Australians? I know they were at the bottom, but Spain didn't do so well and we saw them. *pout*

Oh, the glitter. AAAUUGGGHGHGH! American gymnasts particularly bad. I was surprised some of them could keep their eyes open!

ditto on the glitter. And the sequins. and the hairspray. and the dancing! It was awful - a couple of wonky arm movements does not equal a graceful dance.

I saw the Aussies. It was a shame really, because they didn't do so badly in the qualifying stages.
