My first day . . .
Mar. 25th, 2004 06:12 amHave you ever gone somewhere totally new and just felt comfortable? That was me yesterday.
I turned up a little early, but had a bit of a wait in the office as my teacher was in a Special Needs meeting. Then my teacher took me over to her classroom, which impressed me a lot. See, it's a small area, fairly crowded, and there's not a whole lot of light inside. But the teacher has managed to create a classroom which is bright, cheerful and easy to work in.
There was about 20 students there yesterday, and my teacher decided that rather than just looking on, it would be a good idea if I actually got in and got my hands on teaching. I was given small groups to work with throughout the day, and my favourite moment was when I taught four grade ones that the word eight begins with an 'e'.
Yesterday the kids were a little wild. There was a change in weather, new people in the school, a show on in the afternoon, some of the kids away on an excursion . . . but still I loved it. I just want to get out there into the classroom now. Right now. Give me a classroom. And kids . . . .

on 2004-03-24 05:50 pm (UTC)If there's one thing the world REALLY needs more of it's good teachers. Especially at that age you can make such an incredible difference.
Glad to hear another good teacher is en route.
