Original Fiction . . .

I was planning to hide this, but I need to examine the codes a little more than I have time for today. So here's some original fiction (just a drabble, or part of one really) to begin the Live Journal

~*~

They covered the Toowong pool with a parking lot.

One day, they said, it will be a building. A tall, overpowering creation close enough to the river to be fashionable, too far back to actually see the water.

Before the parking lot, the water was just there.

Well, no, that's not exactly true. They used to empty the pool each winter. It was an excellent indicator of the seasons. Winter was an empty pool, the cold nipping at your skin, chapped lips and the sounds of hacking coughs. But then you started to breathe warmth again, and the jacarandas began to blossom, and one day you'd look out the window of the 412 bus and there'd be water in the pool again.

I like this. When I was a journalism student, they commandeered the JR101 class to write articles about the shutting down of the library and swimming pool, pulling in councillors and so forth to give us soundbites. I wrote a really dodgy article, but I still felt for the loss of the pool and library -- they were Architecturally Significant.

There is more to this, but I want to work on it a bit more first . . .
