I was interviewed

[livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch asked me the following questions . . .

1. Pick a song that says as much about you as a song possibly can.
Just one? Philosophy by Ben Folds Five - the good old school version. I just can't past the line "I'm crazy, but I get the job done."

2. Julie Bishop - do you hate her a lot, or just a little bit?
(For non-Aussies - Julie Bishop is Australian Education Minister)
There's never going to be an education minister who lauds the work that teachers do, day in and day out. And she's a million times better on teachers than Brendan Nelson. But as usual, the focus is wrong. At the moment it's on Nationalising Education so more teachers (who don't enjoy Shakespeare) can be forced to bore their students with Shakespeare. Instead the focus should be on offering interesting resources and proffesional development to encourage teachers to enjoy Shakespeare. Or employing good teachers chosen by a better method than they currently are.

But I digress. Can I hate her a middle bit?

3. We're *desperate* for teachers over here - ever thought about moving?
I get asked this a lot - I suppose it's the same as doctors *g* No moving for at least 2 years, I'm going to teach dancing to my students for at least 10 years, and I like Queensland too much to give it up yet *g*

4. What's a story you've always wanted to write but never have the time/ energy/ motivation?
Any great masterpiece *g* A CJ/Toby fic now I'm older and more understanding of adult relationships. The great post series M*A*S*H fic . . .

5. Seriously, will there ever be another fandom like the West Wing?
After the season 6 finale left me in happy, political geek, I-love-my-characters-so-much tears . . . no. Never. The source material, the fantastic stories, the other fans.

The closest to West Wing is probably Spooks - but the fandom is small so there's less variety of fic out there.

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate!
3. You will update your lj with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

What you were sying about current education reforms was interesting. One of the side-line debates in Britain almost all of the time is about how much Shakespeare should be taught in schools. Currently, though, the biggest debate is how to reform education for the 14-16 and 16-18 age bands (that's to say: the leavers' examinations).

If you ever wrote a CJ/Toby epic, I would fall prostrate before you. I love the pairing, and I think your writing could do them justice. All the best fic seems to have been written during the show's fist three seasons and whilst admittedly I've only seen the first four and a half, I still have a pretty good grasp of what comes aferwards, so I think there needs to be more fic!

I don't think I can compare The West Wing to Spooks but we'll see, especially since I now own S1-4 of Spooks. But yeah, our tiny fandom may be growing, but it's still taking baby steps. Sometimes that's to our benefit, sometimes it's not. We'll see what happens. (Have you had s5 in Australia yet?)

Wow. OK, it's a good thing you told me that because now I can be extra vigilant at spooky doings. Thanks for the heads up.

[livejournal.com profile] mab2701 did two copies of seasons 4 and 5 over the weekend. She's back from Sale in two week's time, and then I'll send your copies off to you.
